Belconnen

Belconnen was the second town centre to be developed, to the north/west of Canberra’s city centre. Families began moving into Belconnen’s first suburb – Aranda, in around 1967.

The Belconnen Town Centre itself is undergoing a renewal with the implementation of the Belconnen Town Centre Master Plan, which is envisioned to strengthen the town centre’s role as a diverse, vital and viable place. There has been an influx of residential development in the heart of the town centre, designed to take advantage of the leafy foreshore of Lake Ginninderra, the surrounding dining and entertaining options and the multitude of employment.

Belconnen is also home to the Canberra International Sports and Aquatic Centre, the University of Canberra, Canberra Stadium – home of the Raiders and Brumbies teams, the Australian Institute of Sport, Calvary Hospital, fruit markets and a variety of quality private and public schools.
